Since 1954, VESELKA has been serving up Ukrainian food from the same location in the heart of the East Village.
Veselka expanded in 1966, it took over a store front on East Ninth Street and the new additional space was referred to as the “Blue Room”, it was a separate dining room off the small front room, this area was often used by my grandfather/founder as his private meeting room for his cronies as well as of course dining area.

5 months agoI happened to be in the area and decided to visit this establishment for a meal. The restaurant was mostly full, but we only had to wait approximately five minutes to be seated outdoors. The prices were reasonable, and the food appeared to be fresh. However, I made the mistake of choosing an outdoor seat, as there were a significant number of mosquitoes. On a positive note, the waiter was very pleasant.

5 months agoGreat Ukrainian restaurant in the heart of NYC. Extensive menu with a good choice of soups, pierogis, potato pancakes, deserts. You must try their borscht, cherry or meat dumplings and of course honey cake! Very kind service and large terrace. This place is an institution! πΊπ¦

5 months agoI'm Ukrainian and that's my statement: the borscht is delicious! Like my mother's one. Honey cake is highly recommended. And there is the only place where I've found buckwheat kasha. Everything is great!

3 months agoWe were seated right away, ordered and our food was out in a out 10 min. The service was top notch as was the food. I had the lobster pierogi which was delicious followed by Drunken Chocolate Cherry cake which was amazing. The cake was moist soaked in rum but very mild and the center was a chocolate mousse with cherry.

8 months agoI was so excited to check this place out- hit it for breakfast and lunch. The service was spectacular and speedy, the space is very cool and the vibe inside is great, fun and chatty. I immediately trust any business that has complementary jam packets on the table. Breakfast was excellent, their French toast and blintzes were stunners but their blueberry pancakes might've been my favorite. The dinner (that I forgot to photograph) highlights were their vegetarian pierogis and the INCREDIBLE STUFFED CABBAGE with the best mushroom gravy would have taken the Veselka crown if not for the honey cake, which was perfect in every sense of the word. Not too sweet, great depth of flavor and texture. I'd never had it before and I loved it immediately- in fact that sentiment applies to this wonderful establishment as a whole.
