2 months agoWe stayed here during a recent visit to LA and while there were a lot of things we enjoyed, there were a few things that kept this from a 5 star review. First, the good! The location is pretty great. It is tucked away but still within walking distance of so many things, like the beach or the promenade. The service was also top notch. Everyone we interacted with was pleasant and wanting to help. The outside and main areas of the property were also very beautiful and you could tell they really took the time to curate every detail. The only downside for us was the room itself. While the entire property had a old world charm, the room itself just felt old. The carpet, the lighting, the bathroom all just felt dated and we felt were lacking in comfort. Now that could've just been our room but I still would recommend this hotel to anyone making their way out to Santa Monica!

3 weeks agoThe lobby and gardens here are beautiful, but our experience in a third floor Grand Studio Residence King was so uncomfortable that we checked out after one night of a planned six-night stay. Temperatures dropped to the low 40's (F) in Santa Monica, with up to 40mph cold winds blowing through the room’s old windows and balcony doors, which don’t seal properly. Although there was a thermostat, the heat didn’t work at all, and when I called the front desk, they confirmed that the heater doesn't work. With no heat or insulation, the temperature in the room was close to the outside temp, and with just a thin comforter plus a light blanket that was given to us at our request, we spent the night shivering. We like nighttime temps of around 64F for sleeping, but the room was much colder than that. This is clearly an older property that’s only been given cosmetic updates. Without proper insulation, a cold, windy Southern California night is surprisingly miserable—even when you’re used to truly cold climates. To the hotel’s credit, they did provide a 50% discount after some discussion. Unfortunately, even aside from the heating issue, I wouldn't recommend this property. There were many other issues with the room, bed, bathroom, etc. But at $500/night, it seems reasonable to expect to be warm enough to sleep at night.

3 weeks agoCute decor and the staff are truly lovely but you hardly get anything more than a bed and a lumpy pillow - not worth $400+ per night. Paper thin walls (I can hear my neighbor snoring as I type), out dated fixtures (shower barely worked, thermostat did not work), tiny bathroom. Coffee was not out on time, food options are limited and my $7 croissant was at least 2 days old, no water refill station.

4 months agoWe enjoyed our stay here really much! The style is perfect 🤩 Service is Great. The building is an old refurbished apartment house (Spanish style) and therefore it is really spacious and quiet. Good for work & travel. Dogs are so lovely welcomed here ♥️ 150% recommendation.

2 months agoThis is really not a full service hotel. The guy at the front desk was also running the cafe. The place is empty, temp in common areas about 64 degrees. Rooms really old, elevator incredibly scary and old, no liquor license so forget about hosting guest for a meal. No recommended. Nice staff but this is not a full service hotel -- it's really a place for short-term apartment rental if you're looking to rent a place with a kitchen -- which our room did not have as we had a regular room. Worst hotel experience I've had in Santa Monica.
